Bridging Inclusion & Integration Gaps: The BIG PROJECT by YESOLP.

In a world that is increasingly characterized by cultural diversity and the rapid movement of people across borders, the necessity for creating inclusive communities has never been more pressing.

This growing multicultural landscape presents both opportunities and challenges as individuals from various backgrounds come together, each bringing unique perspectives, traditions, and experiences. The importance of fostering environments where everyone feels valued, respected, and integrated into society cannot be overstated. To address these critical needs, the Bridging Inclusion and Integration Gaps (BIG Project) has emerged as a vital initiative. This project, which is generously funded by the European Solidarity Corps, aims to tackle the complex issues surrounding social cohesion and integration in Cyprus. This country has a rich tapestry of cultural influences.

The BIG PROJECT is coordinated by the IDEP-Foundation for the Management of European Lifelong Learning Programmes, which serves as the Cyprus National Agency. This organization is dedicated to promoting educational opportunities and enhancing social inclusion through various innovative programs. The BIG PROJECT specifically focuses on bridging the gaps that often exist between different cultural groups, facilitating dialogue, understanding, and collaboration among diverse populations. By engaging with local communities, the project seeks to identify barriers to inclusion and develop tailored strategies that empower individuals to participate fully in society.

Through a series of workshops, training sessions, and community events, the BIG PROJECT aims to create spaces where individuals from various backgrounds can come together to share their stories, learn from one another, and build meaningful relationships. These activities are designed not only to promote cultural exchange but also to equip participants with essential skills that enhance their ability to navigate and contribute to an increasingly interconnected world. Furthermore, the project emphasizes the importance of collaboration with local stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community leaders, to ensure that the initiatives are grounded in the realities of the communities they serve.

As the BIG PROJECT unfolds, it promises to make significant strides toward fostering a more inclusive society in Cyprus. By addressing the integration challenges faced by migrants, refugees, and local populations alike, the project aspires to cultivate a sense of belonging and shared identity. Ultimately, the success of the BIG PROJECT could serve as a model for similar initiatives across Europe, highlighting the importance of solidarity and cooperation in building resilient communities that celebrate diversity and promote social harmony.

Empowering Youths for a Cohesive Future

The BIG PROJECT aims to empower both local and migrant youths in Cyprus by equipping them with the essential tools and knowledge to become active citizens who contribute positively to their communities. With a strong focus on inclusion, cohesion, multiculturalism, and active citizenship, the project is set to make a significant impact.

  • Young migrants (18–30): This group comprises refugees, asylum seekers, and international students.

  • Local Cypriot youths: Promoting cultural exchange and reducing stereotypes are key goals for this group.

By bringing together these diverse groups, the project fosters understanding and collaboration, creating a more inclusive society.

A Journey of 11 Months

The BIG PROJECT spans 11 months, from January 6, 2025, to December 2025. Throughout this period, participants will engage in various activities and programs designed to cultivate a sense of community and mutual respect.

Goals of the BIG PROJECT

The overarching goal of the BIG PROJECT is to cultivate a sense of inclusion, cohesion, multiculturalism, and active citizenship among both local youths and documented migrants. This includes:

  • Recognized refugees: Assisting them in integrating into society.

  • Beneficiaries of subsidiary protection: Providing support and resources.

  • Students and asylum seekers: Offering educational and social opportunities.

  • Marginalized individuals: Ensuring no one is left behind.
